Ooh Shiny!

Soooo I friend of mine who is probably the only person following this blog told me about a new single by a great band called Shiny Toy Guns. For those of you who don't know who that is, they have been around since 2002 and have released two albums. Four actually but the first two were demo versions of the third one. We Are Pilots is the name of this album and their latest one is titled Season of Poison. Their latest endeavor is a cover of Peter Schilling's "Major Tom (Coming Home)", not to be confused with David Bowie's "Space Oddity". Link to DL.

Black Lips... Lol

Soooooo these guys are pretty cool aside from the fact that one of their pictures is of them holding tree branches... yeahhhh. Regardless this self-proclaimed flower-punk band just played at the WOW hall recently and did a great job. Their shows tend to be pretty crazy from them making out with eachother, balloons and even urine. Yeah don't ask. They have five studio albums and two live albums. Their recent release, 200 Million Thousand, has the most plays on Last.fm aside from their single from their 2005 album Good Bad Not Evil "Veni Vedi Vici". If you get a chance to see them life check them out but be prepared for some crazy stage presence.

Blue Scholars!

So the Marxist/Baha'i hip hop duo Blue Scholars from the Northwest is playing a free show supporting the Willamette Valley Music Festival. The show starts at 8 tomorrow night at the University of Oregon Memorial Quad. It should be pretty fun seeing as they've only had good reviews and every show I've seen of theirs has been good. Blue Scholars are comprised of one DJ and one Emcee bringing back the old school sounds of the 80's in a positive new way. They've opened for Kanye West, De La Soul, Immortal Technique, Hieroglyphics, Matisyahu, Zion-I, Gym Class Heroes, Flobots, Coup and GZA of the Wu-Tang clan. I saw them perform as an opening act for Michael Franti and Spearheard last summer and they rocked the house. They've recently joined up with Common Market (another Hip Hop duo) to make their own record label, who is also playing the show tomorrow night. I'll let you all know how it goes.
